Wild Ginger Thail Cuisine - Chamblee Georgia

You can find Wild Ginger Thai Cuisine at 2201 Savoy Dr, Atlanta, GA 30341, this is the access road that parallel's I285 across the North-Eastern arch, inside the perimeter between N. Peachtree Rd and Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd (the access road North of the perimeter is Cotillion). Wild Ginger is in a small cluster of buildings near N. Peachtree Rd just before it turns into the access ramp to I285 East. Parking is in the front or anywhere you can find a space.

This is one of those places that I'd head of but had never tried until we ordered some take out at work. The reviews looked promising so we ordered about 8 dinners. I really wasn't very impressed by the takeout but when someone at work wanted to try Wild Ginger we came as a group of about 9 people and my thought was that perhaps it would be better on-location.

The exterior and interior are very simple and the staff very kind and efficient. We were given a two-sided menu with most of the typical Thai options. I really, really wanted to like the restaurant more than I did, however I found the food I tasted for the most part flavorless. The ingredients were fresh but the flavors just seemed very bland to me. We ordered a large variety so I was able to try pretty much everything - even my favorite Thai dish, Penang Curry Chicken seemed under-spiced and mediocre. They do hand out bowls of shrimp chips - first I've seen in a Thai restaurant (I think they're more of a Cantonese thing?)

Don't get me wrong, the food execution was very competent and the ingredients very fresh - also the service was extremely good - I just can't help but compare the food to Thai Restaurant of Norcross or Siamese Basil Thai Restaurant and it comes up wanting. There's a lack of richness to the curries, a sweetness to the Spicy Basil dishes and a lack of depth to the other sauces that didn't work for me. I still think that it's worth visiting and that many would like the flavors and food here, it just didn't work for me.
